I get a lot of questions about how to add margins, remove spaces between things, add spaces between things, add borders, remove borders, make things disappear, and move elements around the page. Along with these questions, people tell me that the whole topic of HTML and CSS is overwhelming. The answers to many of the questions I get can be found in some easy CSS. I created my CSS eCourse to show you that there isn’t anything to be afraid of!
How this will work
This class was designed so that you can learn how to build a simple blog by following along with me. The screencasts cover every line of CSS and HTML that we write. As you follow along and do as I do, you will learn how to create an identical blog, and in the process, learn a lot of CSS that you can use on your blogs after the course.
For all of this to work best, and for you to know when you are on the right track, it’s important that you follow the steps as I show them to you, and write the same CSS that I do. At the beginning of each day’s work, I will show the current status of our project blog. Compare your blog to mine, and if it doesn’t look the same, chances are you’ve missed a detail — but that’s okay. You can always repeat the previous day’s screencasts and fix your CSS so that it’s just like mine.
I understand that you might want to make changes to your CSS project as you go along — it’s a natural impulse as you learn more CSS — but if your blog diverges too much from the class project, my instructions will no longer apply to your project blog. Since each lesson builds on the previous lesson, it’s important that you be in the “see one, do one” learning mode for the duration of the course. Once you’ve finished the course, you can make all the changes you want!
Off-site Resources
There are plenty of formal CSS sites already in existence, such as W3 Schools or Shay Howe’s coding tutorials. Whenever I use a CSS property, I will show you the basic syntax and usage. But, I’ll refer you to one of the aforementioned resources for the technical details if you desire it. In addition to my class lectures, think of these external sites as our text books.
Terms
One more thing, guys. I’m happy to share what I know with you, but please be aware that I don’t provide Q&A or tech support for these lessons. Please make sure that you begin this eCourse with a blank test blog. But, don’t worry, I’ll show you how to create a new blog in the next screencast.
